Can’t Just Let It Be? Discover Trick with 3 Steps to Present
Date Published
Knowledge workers frequently catch themselves being in the past or in the future. I caught myself too often. However this is only the tip of the iceberg. When we are in the past or in the future we can't focus on now and we are unable to do our work well and our work requires to be in the now too.
To get into the present we need to follow three steps, these are simplified but backed by science:
1. Remove it
2. Reframe it
3. Just be
First you can remove it, by interrupting your Chain Of Thought by focusing on something that is present or by focusing on what next thought are you gonna have (try it, it is awesome and amazing!).
Second, try to reframe it so the thoughts won't come back to you, for example if you are thinking about food that your grandma makes you can reframe it to thinking about meeting grandma.
The final last step is to just be, going back to the example with grandma, now when we are thinking about the meeting which is something much closer than the actual food, we can think about being right here right there and think about making necessary steps to meet grandma.
Remove, Reframe, Be
